  4. This is the companion volume to HOW TO USE THE INTERNET and is an excellent
  5. way to learn how the component parts work to make the Internet do what it
  6. does.  Its a colorful, captivating journey that blends lively illustrations
  7. by Pamela Drury Wattenmaker and text to help you understand what happens
  8. when you send a message or download a file.

  10. HOW THE INTERNET WORKS is part of Ziff-Davis' "How It Works" series and
  11. does not assume any technical background or net experience.  All you need
  12. is the curiosity and willingness to explore.

  14. This book doesn't tell you how to perform various net functions; the
  15. companion title, HOW TO USE THE INTERNET, does this admirably.  Instead,
  16. HOW THE INTERNET WORKS takes you behind the scenes and shows you what 
  17. actually occurs when you perform an Archie search or transfer a file using
  18. FTP.  The illustrations compliment the text and you come away with a
  19. basic understanding of what is going on "under the hood", so to speak.

  21. I evaluated HOW TO USE THE INTERNET  in conjunction with HOW THE INTERNET WORKS
  22. because they compliment each other and combined they will teach folks young
  23. and old how to understand perform basic net functions.  Although there are
  24. many books on the subject of how to use the net costing less than these two
  25. volumes, the WIRED TO THE NET package (which is what the bundled set is
  26. called) is fully illustrated which is very helpful to learn the subject at
  27. hand.  One look at the beautiful artwork will tell you instantly that this
  28. is indeed a quality product.  I really liked it and so will by 11 year-old
  29. who will learn a great deal from it.
